Introduction

Explore the enchanting beauty and rich history of Classic Greece on this 8-day self-drive adventure.Your journey begins in Athens, where you can marvel at iconic landmarks like the Acropolis and the Parthenon. After soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of the city, you’ll head to Nafplio, a picturesque town known for its charming streets and stunning seaside views.

Next, visit Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Here, you can wander through the archaeological site and the ancient stadium, immersing yourself in the history of this legendary location.

From Olympia, make your way to the breathtaking cliffs of Meteora, where monasteries perched atop rock formations offer stunning vistas and a glimpse into monastic life.

Continuing north, you’ll reach Litohoro, a gateway to Mount Olympus. Enjoy the natural beauty
of the area and, if you’re feeling adventurous, consider a hike on the trails of this mythical
mountain.

Finally, your trip culminates in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, rich in Byzantine
history and vibrant culture. Explore its lively waterfront, historic sites, and diverse culinary scene
before concluding your unforgettable journey.

Day 1: Arrival Athens

Start Point

Arrival to Athens airport, pick up your car rental and self-drive to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to explore one of the oldest cities on earth. Overnight in Athens.

Optional Athens city tour:

Upon your arrival or after check-in at hotel meet with the guide and start Athens City Tour.You will head to one of the most important and famous ancient sites in the world, the Acropolis, which sits on top of a rocky hill overlooking the city, providing great views. Take the chance after the tour to stroll around Plaka with the traditional taverns and shops.

Day 2: Athens – Nafplio (138 km)

Breakfast at hotel and self-drive to Nafplio. On the way you can make a short stop at Corinth Canal before the arrival to Nafplio. Spend a day to explore and discover the city of Nafplio. Take a boat ride around Bourtzi or visit the Palamidi fortress, which is preserved in an excellent way and is one of the greatest achievements of Venetian fortification architecture. Overnight in Nafplion.

Optional Mycenae and Epidaurus tour:

Meet with your guide and visit Mycenae, one of the major centers of Greek civilization, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. Further on to Epidaurus, UNESCO’S world heritage listed monument, which is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asclepios, the healer. Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings.

Day 3: Nafplio – Olympia (178 km)

After breakfast you leave early this morning and head to Olympia, which is the birthplace of the Olympic Games, which are thought to have begun here in 776 BC as part of a religious festival in honor of the king of the gods, Zeus. On the way to Olympia, you can stop at picturesque traditional mountain village of Dimitsana.

Continue drive to Olympia,

check in at hotel and overnight.

Optional Tour of Ancient Olympia:

Upon arrival or next day after breakfast meet with your guide and visit the archaeological site of Ancient Olympia. The tour continues in the museum.You will discover significant ancient artifacts from the archaeological site.

Day 4: Olympia – Delphi (243 km)

Breakfast at hotel and self-drive to Delphi via impressive Rio Ontario bridge.You will pass city of Nafpaktos and can make a stop at beautiful Galaxidi or Itea for lunch by the sea. Later continue to Delphi. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Delphi.

Day 5: Delphi – Kalambaka (231 km)

Delphi was once considered the center of the ancient world and we will tour a range of sites. After breakfast you can explore the Archaeological Museum of Delphi which hosts some of ancient Greece’s best remaining masterpieces. Later you will head to the small, picturesque city of Kalambaka which nestles at the foot of the mountains of Meteora. Overnight in Kalambaka.

Day 6: Meteora – Litochoro (150 km)

Meteora is one of the greatest monuments of the world, the monasteries that are hanging from the top of gigantic rocks. Nowadays, only six monasteries are well preserved and four of them are still inhabited, and available for visit. After your visit of Meteora, you will continue the drive to Litochoro, small village at the footsteps of Mount Olympus. Have a walk at Enipeas gorge and admire the nature. Overnight at Litochoro.

Day 7: Olympus – Dion – Vergina – Thessaloniki (152 km)

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Ancient Dion, the official religious center of the Macedonians, dedicated to the ancient cult of Olympian Zeus, situated at the footsteps of the legendary Mount Olympus-home of the 12 Gods of mythology. Dion was the city with the most sacrifices to the Olympian Gods. Visit of the archaeological site and the museum. Further on to Thessaloniki via Vergina, the ancient capital city of Macedonia. Visit of the impressing museum containing, among others, the Royal Tomb of King Philip the II, father of Alexander, and other precious treasures of spectacular beauty. Continue drive to Thessaloniki and overnight.

Day 8: Departure

End Point

Before your departure explore the city of Thessaloniki – called by locals “northern capital of Greece”. Pass through the main sights i.e. the picturesque old town, the Byzantine church of Agios Dimitrios, the Arch of Galerius, the Rotunda monument & the emblematic church of Hagia Sophia, while passing by the White Tower symbol of our city from where we will walk until the statue of Alexander the Great. Drive to Thessaloniki Airport, drop off the car and continue for departure.
